Use this skill whenever the user is designing a service-based system, decomposing a monolith into coarse-grained services, deciding how many services to create, choosing a database topology for distributed services, deciding between shared database and per-service databases, evaluating whether to add an API layer, determining ACID vs eventual consistency needs, or comparing service-based architecture against microservices — even if they don't use the exact phrase "service-based architecture."
